Peacock is expanding its commitment to “Ted” by commissioning an animated series inspired by Seth MacFarlane’s profanity-spewing teddy bear movie franchise.
The specific storyline remains undisclosed, but the upcoming animated show will be set following the occurrences in both “Ted” theatrical releases. Seth MacFarlane will return to provide the voice for Ted, alongside Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth who will resume their respective roles as John, Sam, and Tami-Lynn from the movies. Furthermore, Kyle Mooney has been casted to lend his voice to the new character named Apollo, complementing Liz Rhyan’s portrayal of Ruth.
This marks the second “Ted” television series on Peacock, alongside their current airing of a live-action prequel. The latter debuted in January 2024 and set records as Peacock’s most-viewed original content to date.
The second season is presently being developed.
MacFarlane also provides the voice for Ted in that series, whereas Richman portrayed John’s high school peer Polly across several episodes.
The role keeps Seyfried in business with Peacock, as the Emmy-winning actress recently starred in the limited series “Long Bright River” at the streaming service.
In the newly launched animated series, MacFarlane not only stars but also takes up writing and executive producing roles. The writing duties alongside him are handled by Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh who have been named as both writers, executive producers, and showrunners for this project. Additionally, they share their role as showrunners on another prequel series. Other key figures involved include Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, and Aimee Carlson from MacFarlane’s production company, Fuzzy Door Entertainment; Claudia Katz representing Rough Draft; and UCP working together with Fuzzy Door and MRC in the production process.
The inaugural “Ted” film was a significant commercial success, earning almost $550 million at the box office with an initial investment of $65 million back in 2012. Its follow-up released in 2015 managed to amass more than $215 million globally. Each installment was brought to life through the collaborative efforts of Universal Pictures and MRC Film.
MacFarlane is represented by WME, Jackoway Austen, and manager Joy Fehily. Wahlberg is represented by Leverage, WME, and Sloane Offer. Seyfried has representation from Innovative Artists and Frankfurt, Kurnit, Klein & Selz. Barth is with Jackoway Austen. Mooney is backed by Rise Management and UTA. Richman is supported by Citizen Skull Management along with The Chasin Agency.
