Seth MacFarlane’s New ‘Ted’ Animated Series Debuts on Peacock with Mark Wahlberg

Peacock has ordered a series called “Ted: The Animated Series,” which is currently the working title for an animated offshoot of the 2012 and 2015 live-action comedy movie series developed and helmed by Seth MacFarlane. He also appeared alongside Mark Wahlberg in these films.

The order builds upon the franchise’s expansion after the success of “Ted,” which is Peacock’s live-action prequel series.

Of course, MacFarlane will lend his voice to Ted, the raunchy, enchanted talking teddy bear who takes center stage in the narrative, while Wahlberg will provide the vocals for Ted’s human counterpart, John Bennett.

Amanda Seyfried will also be back as John’s girlfriend, Samantha Jackson, along with Jessica Barth reprising her role as Ted’s spouse, Tami-Lynn.

Kyle Mooney (“Y2K,” “Saturday Night Live”), known for voicing “Apollo”—possibly Ted and Tami-Lynn’s adoptive son from “Ted 2″—and actress Liz Richman (“Little America”), who portrays “Polly” in Peacock’s live-action “Ted” series and lends her voice to “Ruth” in the animated version, have also joined the cast.

The series originates from UCP (part of Universal Studio Group), along with production companies Fuzzy Door and MRC.

MacFarlane authored and helmed “Ted” (2012) and “Ted 2” (2015), and he also crafted, steered, and holds an executive producer role for the Peacock live-action series. As the mastermind behind “Family Guy,” “The Orville,” and “American Dad!,” MacFarlane will oversee every episode of the animated show as an executive producer, working alongside fellow exec producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh.

In January 2024, the live-action “Ted” series made its debut as Peacock’s top-viewed original content at that point. Additionally, it claimed the spot of the highest-rated original streaming comedy in the U.S. for over two successive months, based on Nielsen data. The show also performed impressively in the U.K., marking the largest premiere for an American comedy there in over twenty years.

Additional highlights encompass: Fox8 Australia’s highest-rated international series debut over the last two years, as well as the largest U.S. comedy introduction on the streaming platform Binge; it also claimed the top spot among programs on Canada’s Showcase and was the most-watched streamed show throughout its tenure on StackTV.

“Ted” was renewed for a second season in May 2024. Production on the season
