The Emmy Award-winning dancer and choreographer Derek Hough is set to have his very own footwear line.
Hough, who has won the hit TV series ”
Dancing with the Stars
a record-smashing six times, he naturally turned to the realm of dance for his shoe venture.
On Thursday, Hough will unveil two exclusive dance sneaker designs.
Miami-based
Fuego, a dance and lifestyle shoe brand.
The launch features the Derek Hough x Fuego Low-Top Dance Sneaker. According to the shoe brand, this design combines elegance with functionality, describing it as a “chic and versatile sneaker that merges elements of dance attire and urban fashion for top-notch comfort and adaptability without compromising on performance.”
Following is the Derek Hough x Fuego Split-Sole Dance Shoe, crafted as a technically advanced, high-performance footwear intended for dancers needing optimal flexibility and control during performances.
According to Hough, he was “super hands-on” throughout the design process.
“I’ve dedicated my life to movement and performances, which has taught me the importance of proper footwear—not only for optimal performance but also for safeguarding your body, particularly your knees, during practice and ensuring confidence as you dance,” Hough shared exclusively with FN prior to the product’s release. “I collaborated closely with the team to ensure that every aspect—from the fit to the function—embodied exactly what”
dancers need
.”
Hough noted that, for him, the shoe’s support and flexibility attributes were the most important elements of the design. “I wanted the shoes to move with you – not against you – so we focused on lightweight materials,
cushioned insoles
, ensuring both stability and flexibility,” he explained. “Particularly with the split-sole design, our focus was on enhancing control and movement range. Plus, they needed to have an appealing appearance as well.
The lead performer mentioned that witnessing the end result of his creations was his most cherished aspect of the endeavor. He confessed, “That moment filled me with immense pride. There’s a significant satisfaction in transforming a concept into reality through hard work, observing individuals wearing the footwear, moving gracefully in them, and responding with authentic happiness. It’s fulfilling to see how they enhance and support one’s movements.”
As for if these shoes are “Dancing with the Stars” approved, Hough said “absolutely.”
“These are shoes I would wear myself during rehearsals, performances, or even just on the go,” he said. “We tested and refined them with movement in mind, and I’m confident dancers at every level will feel the difference. I can’t wait for everyone to try them out!”
The Derek Hough x Fuego sneaker collection, with both styles retailing for $180, is now available to shop on Fuego’s website.
