Editor-in-Chief Sarah Douglas and Publisher Erica Lubow Necarsulmer greeted attendees at the ground-level studio within PMC’s headquarters, located just opposite the main branch of the New York Public Library. In celebration of this event, they clinked glasses filled with Ruinart champagne—served along with Presqu’ile wines—and directed a tribute to both the featured artists and the gathered crowd who had come together to recognize and celebrate their creations.
At the panel discussion, Dunham mentioned his formative years as an artist starting from the 1970s, stating, “I had absolutely no doubts about my calling to engage with abstract art during those youthful times.” However, gradually, figures started appearing in his creations. He explained, “The process itself compelled me; my artwork seemed to have specific demands of me.”
Feinstein, a dedicated abstract artist for many years, recalled, “Years back, a representational painter informed me that I didn’t belong within the realm of painting culture.” However, she sought her own path. “My aim was to thoroughly grasp geometric painting since it represented the most detached emotionality.” Regarding the oscillation between figurative work and abstraction—a subject delved into by Barry Schwabsky in his piece— Feinsteintein continued her exploration.
