Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson Star in ‘Teenage Terror: Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,’ New Slasher Film from ‘I Saw the TV Glow’ Director and Mubi

Stars from “Hacks,” Hannah Einbinder, and the renowned actress from “The X-Files,” Gillian Anderson, are joining forces for a fresh take on the slasher genre.

“Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” will be the third film directed by Jane Schoenbrun, following her psychologically chilling horror movie “I Saw the TV Glow,” which was among the year’s most highly praised independent productions in 2024.

Plan B is overseeing the production of the film, which has received financial backing from Mubi for distribution in specific regions such as North America, Latin America, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand. The Match Factory will manage the international sales excluding these areas.

In “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” the notorious “Camp Miasma” horror series is being rebooted once more. However, as the newest installment’s director falls deeply for the enigmatic and withdrawn lead actress from the first movie, an entirely different type of killer rises from beneath the waters of the lake.

“I create films that I longed for as a child,” said Schoenbrun. “‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ represents my effort toward crafting the ultimate ‘slumber party classic’: a wild but comforting journey into the late-night realm, inviting curious audiences from the horror shelves of neighborhood video stores. The idea of going off to summer camp this season alongside the wildly inventive Hannah Einbender, the iconic Gillian Anderson, and the bold teams at Mubi and Plan B fills me with immense excitement. Their decision to bring this project to life has essentially called forth torrents of gore, entrails, and myriad other substances ready to descend upon us.”

Schoenbrun identifies as non-binary and works as both a filmmaker and writer. Besides their film “I Saw the TV Glow,” they have directed other movies such as “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” and “A Self-Induced Hallucination.” The movie “I Saw the TV Glow” received nominations for six Independent Spirit Awards, with categories like best picture, screenplay, and director being among them; additionally, it garnered three Gotham Award nominations. Schoenbrun’s debut novel titled “Public Access Afterworld” is scheduled for publication by Hogarth in 2026.

Upcoming and recent releases from Mubi feature Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind,” Karim Aïnouz’s “Rosebush Pruning,” along with Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother.”

Schoenbrunn is affiliated with CAA, Entertainment 360, and Kimberly Jaime of Jackoway Austen; Einbinder is connected to CAA, The Lede Company, Cary Dobkin, and David Krintzman from Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman; Anderson is represented by UTA, Independent Talent, and Premier Communications.
