Jane Schoenbrun’s Upcoming Film: Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbender Star in ‘Teen angst and Drama at Camp Miasma’

Jane Schoenbrun’s most recent feature film, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” has now secured backing from MUBI. This arrangement includes financing as well as distribution of the movie in certain regions.

MUBI revealed “Camp Miasma” on Friday, with stars including Hannah Einbender from “Hacks” and Gillian Anderson from “The X-Files.” The film is set to begin production this summer in British Columbia.

Schoenbrun both penned the script and will helm the movie centered around a director tasked with once more revamping a slasher horror series known as “Camp Miasma.” However, complications arise when this new filmmaker develops an unhealthy fixation on the enigmatic and introverted lead actress from the first installment. This obsession leads to a fresh breed of terror surfacing from the depths of the lake.

Brad Pitt’s company, Plan B, has joined the project as a producer. Daniel Bekerman, serving as an executive producer, will offer local production support through his company Scythia Films. MUBI is funding the movie and plans to handle distribution in certain regions such as North America, Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, The Match Factory will oversee international sales for the rest of the world.

“I create films that I longed for as a child,” stated Schoenbrun, “and ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ represents my most ambitious effort towards crafting the ultimate ‘slumber party classic’: a wild but welcoming journey into the late-night realm that lures curious audiences from the shelves of their neighborhood video stores. The prospect of embarking on this adventure to summer camp this season alongside the brilliantly comedic Hannah Einbinder, the iconic Gillian Anderson, and under the visionary guidance of MUBI and Plan B—those responsible for giving life to such a project—is nothing short of thrilling. Their decision has essentially unleashed a torrential storm filled with gore, entrails, and numerous other substances upon us.”

Schoenbrunn’s latest movie, “I Saw the TV Glow,” had its debut at Sundance in 2024 and was distributed by A24. It quickly garnered critical acclaim and became a favorite among audiences.

Einbinder is presently starring in Max’s popular comedy show “Hacks,” which has reached its fourth season. Last year, she debuted her first standalone special titled “Everything Must Go” on Max as well. Anderson, who boasts two Emmy wins, has been recognized for her roles in shows such as “The X-Files,” “The Crown,” “The First Lady,” “The Great,” and the recently aired “Scoop.” Her upcoming appearance will be in “Tron: Ares,” set to release this autumn.

MUBI has several films premiering at Cannes next week, including Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind” and Oliver Hermanus’ “The History of Sound,” and it will also soon be releasing Karim Aïnouz’s “Rosebush Pruning,” and Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother.”

Jane Schoenbrun is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Kimberly Jaime of Jackoway Austen. Hannah Einbinder is affiliated with CAA, The Lede Company, as well as Cary Dobkin and David Krintzman from Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman. Gillian Anderson has under her representation UTA, Independent Talent, and Premier Communications.
