Earlier this year, in March, it was initially reported that
Mishael Morgan is set to return
to
Young and Restless
For yet another portrayal of Amanda Sinclair. Currently, enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating her return onscreen beginning with the episode set to air on Friday, May 16. Nevertheless, regarding the specific reason behind Amanda’s upcoming visit to Genoa City, the actress remains tight-lipped.
Coming Around Again
“She’s constantly advocating for someone,” Morgan playfully mentioned in a recent interview.

Prior to her return, the actress noted that Amanda embodies influential figures within society. She further stated that upon her comeback, Amanda will portray someone enigmatic yet highly powerful, stirring things up during her presence. For instance, Amanda plans an intentional encounter with Abby—who had an affair with Devon when he was still committed to Amanda—and later tied the knot with him. According to Morgan’s preview, “Amanda decides, ‘Why not run into Abby and make her feel uneasy?’”
In 2013, Morgan initially became part of the Y&R ensemble, portraying Hilary Curtis up until the character met their demise in 2018. The next year, she came back to the show in the role of Amanda Sinclair, which later turned out to be Hilary’s previously unknown twin sibling. Then, in 2022, Morgan achieved a historic milestone by being the first African American woman to secure the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress due to her performance on the series.
By the close of 2022, Morgan declared her intention to leave the soap opera to explore new ventures, although she came back temporarily for Y&R’s 50th-anniversary celebration in March 2023 and paid another visit to Genoa City in February 2024. During this period off-screen from Y&R, the actress has stayed active by taking leading roles in various films such as
Christmas With a Kiss
and
Dress for Success,
earlier this year appeared in the four-episode Hallmark television movie series
Hearts Around the Table
.
Although Morgan acknowledged that adapting to the fast-paced environment of a daily soap was challenging at first, she found it effortless to resume her role. She shared, “Transitioning back into Amanda’s shoes comes naturally.” According to her, the distinction between playing Amanda and Hilary allowed her to focus solely on developing Amanda further without being influenced by previous characters. Despite her extended absence from the show, each return provided an opportunity to reveal more about Amanda’s development and transformation. Off-screen events such as losing her mother and taking up a new career contributed significantly to her character’s progression during these periods.
