Demi Moore and Colman Domingo are slated to co-star in “Strange Arrivals,” an ambitious romantic tale produced by See-Sow Films.
Roger Ross Williams, an Oscar-winning director, is at the helm of this project, with Rocket Science and Cross City Film set to unveil the film at Cannes.
Inspired by the remarkable real-life events involving Betty and Barney Hill—a mixed-race duo whose lives took a bizarre turn in 1961 when they were reportedly abducted by aliens during their return trip from a honeymoon at Niagara Falls—the narrative unfolds. This incident thrust them into the spotlight; however, beneath all this attention lay the core reality of what truly occurred that evening, challenging one of history’s most extraordinary love stories.
The movie will be produced by Emile Sherman, Iain Canning, Samantha Lang, and Anne Carey. The executive producers include Simon Gillis, Garth Davis, Roger Ross Williams, Thorsten Schumacher, Aaron Mahnke, Bob Pittman, Conal Byrne, and Geoff Martz. “Strange Arrivals” was created under See-Saw’s banner of I Am That and is being made in collaboration with One Story Up.
Roger Ross Williams stated, “As a director, having the opportunity to collaborate with such accomplished actors is like a dream come true.” He added, “The synergy between Demi and Colman as they breathe life into Jane Anderson’s exquisite script—a piece that sheds light on the human experience—will undoubtedly create something magical. Additionally, I’m exhilarated about partnering with the exceptional crew at See-Saw Films. Their history of producing artist-centric narratives makes us feel incredibly supported.”
Rocket Science has joined forces to debut international sales at the Cannes Film Festival alongside Cross City Films, which will handle this through their internal sales division known as See-Saw Films. The representation for U.S. rights will be managed collaboratively by WME Independent, CAA Media Finance, and Cross City Films.
Roger has an exceptional talent for eliciting nuanced and profoundly genuine performances from actors, crafting narratives that linger in one’s mind well past the end of the movie,” noted Canning and Sherman from See-Saw Films. “He excels at probing the intricacies of the human experience and adeptly handles the murky boundaries separating reality, dread, and mystery, making him ideally suited to adapt the compelling tale of Betty and Barney Hill into a film. The pairing of Demi and Colman as lead performers ensures this will likely become a riveting and indelible piece of cinema.
Added producer Lang stated, “This is an enthralling tale of love, beautifully adapted for the screen by the exceptional Jane Anderson. Under the compassionate and powerful direction of Roger Ross Williams, alongside the remarkable talents of Demi Moore and Colman Domingo, we bring a legendary historical event back to life. It’s truly an honor to contribute to sharing this monumental romantic saga with viewers.”
Moore is represented by agencies including CAA, Untitled Entertainment, Gang Tyre, and The Lede Company. Domingo is with WME, Liebman Entertainment, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham. Williams works with WME and is managed by Lindsay Williams from The Gotham Group. Anderson’s representatives include Anonymous Content and United Talent Agency; additionally, lawyer Tara Kole of Johnson, Shapiro, Slewitt & Kole provides her legal representation.
