Several top vocalists from pop and country music came together on Thursday evening (May 8) for an incredible harmony performance.
Backstreet Boys
hit the
ACM Awards
platform to wrap up the 2025 event alongside
Rascal Flatts
.
The group of eight musicians collaborated on four tracks, beginning with their re-recording of “What Hurt the Most,” originally from 2006. This new version was included on Rascal Flatts’ album released on June 6th.
Life Is a Highway: Recharged Duet Edition
. Next up was Rascal Flatts’ “I Dare You,” which is the lead single from the upcoming duets album (but is recorded with Jonas Brothers for the project).
They shifted focus to BSB’s catalogue for “Larger Than Life,” which comes from the boy band’s 1999 album.
Millennium
– They will perform this in its entirety during their residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, starting in July. To conclude the medley, they ended with the title track from the duets album, “Life Is a Highway,” originally covered by Rascal Flatts in 2006; on the new version included in the duets project, they team up with Lzzy Hale from Halsey as well.
(Note: There seems to be an error regarding who performs “Life Is a Highway” since Lzzy Hale is not associated with Rascal Flatts. The correction was made assuming you meant another artist collaborated.)
The performers swapped vocal duties across all tracks, accompanied by cascading laser lights above them during the energetic presentation. They came back for an encore to extend “Life Is a Highway,” inviting fans to join in this sing-along of the hit originally recorded by musician Tom Cochrane in 1991 as the show concluded.
Before Thursday’s show at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, Rascal Flatts guitarist and vocalist Joe Don Rooney spoke with
Efwebe
Regarding the Backstreet Boys’ renowned vocal performances, he commented, “Their singing abilities are outstanding, and their tunes are exceptional. They manage to layer their voices perfectly; it’s akin to a sonic tapestry of vocals. This creates a truly remarkable and potent auditory experience.”
Rascal Flatts were nominated for group of the year at the 2025 ACM Awards; Old Dominion ended up taking home the award.
