James Bond’s Friend Sean Connery: Trump Assures No Tariff Impact on Franchise

At a recent press conference, Donald Trump stated that he does not intend to impact James Bond movies despite discussions regarding a potential 100% tax on productions filmed abroad.

This statement follows a tweet posted by the U.S. President on May 5 which read:

I’m instructing the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative to promptly initiate the procedure for imposing a 100% tariff on every movie entering our country that is produced abroad. We want movies made in America once more!

Donald Trump asserts that the American movie business is lagging due to other nations offering more attractive incentives to filmmakers. He feels this adversely affects Hollywood and poses potential risks to both national security and the dissemination of propaganda.

At the press conference, Trump expanded on the subject by stating,

We will implement some tariffs to bring them back since many have departed from this country.

During the discussions, he brought up James Bond by saying,

However, James Bond doesn’t have anything to stress over, at least as far as I can inform you. Also, you should know that Sean Connery was a close acquaintance of mine. In fact, Sean Connery played a key role in helping me secure zoning permissions in Aberdeen.

“He said, ‘Let the bloody bloke build his golf courses.’ I was like four years into the process, and it was impossible in Aberdeen. And he, I don’t know, he just stood up one day, and he said, and as soon as he said that, I got the approvals in about two minutes. He was a great guy, Sean Connery.”

Sir Sean Connery was the initial actor to portray James Bond on screen, beginning with
Dr. No
In 1962, he appeared in seven James Bond films and defined the role of an unyielding agent.
