While promoting his new “John Wick” documentary titled “Wick Is Pain,” Stahelski announced some details regarding “Highlander.”

Should everything go as planned over the coming 24 hours, we will start filming around September,” Stahelski stated. “By 2027 or 2028, you’ll get to watch ‘Highlander’.

Admittedly, the specifics of what needs to be resolved within “the next 24 hours” remain unclear, yet this unexpected and positive update bodes well for the upcoming “Highlander” remake. A brief visit to IMDb reveals the numerous ventures currently in progress with Stahelski at the helm, and leading this list is “John Wick: Chapter 5.”

Next up are several “Wick” spin-offs that Stahelski is involved with, such as the forthcoming “Ballerina,” Donnie Yen’s “Caine,” an animated prequel titled “John Wick,” and the television series “Under the High Table.”

In the 1986 movie “Highlander,” Christopher Lambert portrays Connor MacLeod, a 16th-century Scottish clan member who discovers his immortality after unexpectedly coming back to life following a fatal encounter in combat. His guide and teacher becomes the benevolent Ramirez (Sean Connery), who imparts everything Connor needs to learn regarding immortals.

Today, MacLeod works as an antique dealer in New York City during The Gathering, when the final remaining Immortals compete for The Prize.

“Highlander” has seen numerous sequels along with both television and film spin-offs over the years; however, Stahelski’s movie aims to completely restart the narrative.

Last year, when talking with Stahelski, he mentioned

Regarding some of the distinctions between the initial concept and his vision, Stahelski stated, “We’re shifting it from the early 1500s in the Highlands to locations far ahead in time like contemporary New York and Hong Kong, and observing where this takes us.” He added, “This opens up vast possibilities for intense action sequences. It’s an opportunity to portray a role few others have had the chance to take on. Additionally, there will be elements of romance, though not as traditionally expected.”
