Andy Serkis both directing and playing the role of Gollum? Absolutely, this project will be wild in the coolest, most murmured manner possible.
In last October, screenwriter Philippa Boyens stated

that
The Hunt For Gollum
It’s “a rather gripping tale that unfolds following Bilbo’s birthday celebration and precedes the journey to the Mines of Moria. This particular segment reveals an extraordinary unpublished narrative, shared from the viewpoint of this remarkable being.”
In 2023,
Serkis told
The Independent
that his favorite
Lord of the Rings
The film was the sequel.
The Two Towers.
“He didn’t mean it was just because Gollum appeared the most,” he clarified. “Rather, when it was released, it resonated with me due to its depiction of the Battle of Helm’s Deep and how it mirrored the Iraq War at the time.”
Tolkien strongly disliked allegory, which led Serkis to comment: “He would detest me for mentioning this, but I simply felt that the timing of that movie carried immense power.”
When the new film was initially announced, Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav stated that Jackson, along with producing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, “would be involved throughout the entire process.”
Serkis stated back then: “Yessss, precious. The moment has arrived again for me to embark upon an adventure into uncharted territories with my cherished companions, the exceptional and unparalleled protectors of Middle-earth, Peter, Fran, and Philippa. Alongside Mike, Pam, and the Warner Bros crew on this journey together with WETA and our cinematic clan from New Zealand. This is simply delectable.”
