Official Release Date Set for ‘Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum’

Gollum is set to make his return to the silver screen.

“The Hunt for Gollum: The Lord of the Rings” is set to debut in cinemas on December 17, 2027, as stated by Warner Bros. on Thursday.

Andy Serkis
is set to resume his role as Gollum and will additionally take up directing duties for the new film.

As announced by Warner Bros., the production of the new film will be led by Peter Jackson, along with his collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who were behind the original “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

Serkis
performed motion capture acting
As Gollum in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and Caesar in the “Planet of the Apes” series, along with roles in “King Kong,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and “The Adventures of Tintin.”

Serkis has also taken part in the Disney+ “Star Wars” show called “Andor,” as well as in the Marvel movies “Avengers: The Age of Ultron” and “Black Panther.” Additionally, he has helmed the films “Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle” and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.”

Warner Bros. first announced
“The Search for Gollum” took place last summer
and was hoping it would be prepared for release in cinemas by 2026.

The timing of the holiday season release is advantageous for the franchise, considering that all six films in Jackson’s prior “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” series debuted in December.
