“Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” is slated to be director Johnson’s third entry in the franchise. The film will see Daniel Craig returning as Detective Benoit Blanc, tackling his most dangerous case to date.
And Renner heaped praise upon Johnson on the podcast, adding: “I don’t know. He’s such an interesting guy, Rian.
He’s really an amazing and intelligent fellow. Far too good-natured for that sort of thing. Plus, he’s a man – nothing seems to bother him.
That was the thrilling aspect of being capable of doing it, wasn’t it? It was the primary motivation for going through with it. Plus, working alongside Rian. What an amazing opportunity, man.

Concerning the continuation of the Knives Out franchise, Johnson indicated his willingness to expand it further after Wake Up Dead Man, saying he would be open to it “so long as Daniel [Craig] remains interested.” In response to inquiries from Collider regarding additional installments in the Knives Out series, Johnson cautioned, “We will only proceed with new movies if we come up with ideas that feel fresh and aren’t merely repetitions.”
He emphasized that additional movies should be “truly thrilling and frightening,” stating: “‘Wow, can we actually make this happen?’”
He went on: “I adore this genre. Its flexibility knows no bounds, thus offering limitless opportunities.”
“But at the same time, I have made three of them in a row. I don’t feel burnt out on it at all, but the next thing I have in my head to write is an original that’s not a mystery at all.”
The filmmaker responsible for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has suggested that Wake Up Dead Man will take a significantly different direction compared to its predecessor, Glass Onion. They dropped hints saying, “This upcoming film, Wake Up Dead Man, is entirely distinct from Glass Onion.”
