Sir Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are set to take on their iconic roles as Professor X and Magneto once again, with beloved characters such as Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique and Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler returning too. Their comeback is exciting yet somewhat unexpected. After all, the X-Men ensemble has aged quite a bit compared to many other casts.

Perhaps the squads might have differing views on how to handle the multiverse as intersecting alternate dimensions clash, or they could conflict over the ascent of Doctor Doom. Regardless, setting these two factions against one another would logically pave the way for a possible collaboration down the line.
