Red Animation Studios has unveiled its latest outpost, named Red Canarias, situated in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Spain’s Canary Islands. This expansion marks a significant milestone in the company’s two-decade trajectory and bolsters its position within the European animation industry.
As operations are already underway in Lima, Peru, the incorporation of Red Canarias provides Red Animation Studios with a key foothold in the Canary Islands—a location rapidly emerging as an attraction for film and animation creation because of its strong facilities, skilled and multilingual workforce, along with appealing financial benefits such as up to a 54% reimbursement on eligible production expenses.
The launch of the Tenerife facility officially marks the partnership between Red Animation and Seru Animation, a Germany-based studio known for works such as “The Elkins,” “Rabbit Academy,” and “My Fairy Troublemaker.” These firms will collaborate on producing and co-producing an array of computer-generated feature films, combining their technical prowess and utilizing the benefits provided by their respective locations.
Red’s CEO and Creative Director, Milton Guerrero, shares that their team has produced over three thousand minutes of CGI and 2D animations for collaborators including Rovio, Moonbug, Warner, Disney, and SERU.

Red Canarias enables us to share this invaluable experience with European clients and speed up the growth of our distinctive intellectual property portfolio.
Guillermo Peraza, who serves as a producer and studio manager, has become part of the on-site leadership group in Tenerife. His role involves supervising the daily activities at Red Canarias. Alongside Guerrero and Marie Castañeda, the head of production at Red Animation, this trio aims to expand the studio’s productivity and enhance its impact within the area.
Castañeda states, ‘Our studio’s success stems from our commitment to dependability, innovation, and superior technology.’ He adds that Tenerife’s cooperative community provides an ideal setting for amplifying these qualities, fostering emerging talent, and maintaining joy among global viewers.’
It is anticipated that Red Canarias will create around 40 high-skill positions within its initial year and collaborate with nearby universities to establish educational programs. This move aims to bolster the region’s development into a key European center for animation and special effects production.
Recently, Red Animation Studios has been involved in several notable projects including “Angry Birds: Maker Space” (seasons 2-3) and “Angry Birds: Bubble Trouble” (seasons 1-2), both produced for Rovio Entertainment. They have also worked on “Crayola Crew” for Moonbug Entertainment and collaborated with SERU Animation on titles like “My Fairy Troublemaker” and “Elfkins 2.” Additionally, they’re moving forward with two original creations: an upcoming animated film titled “KAI,” which is presently being filmed, along with developing a new series called “Spark of the Mechas.”
Established in 2005, Red Animation Studios has created over 2,000 minutes of high-quality programming aimed at children and their families. As the company expands into Tenerife, it further extends its worldwide presence and artistic impact around the globe.
