Led by Andy Serkis. Co-writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens of the original trilogy have also come back.
While confirmation isn’t yet available, based on the title, viewers can anticipate the film chronicling Gollum’s encounters with Sauron in Mordor. The story will likely continue as he sets out toward the Shire.
Warner Bros. initially planned to release the new movie in 2026 when they announced it in the summer of 2024. However, fans will have to endure an additional delay as Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum has been officially scheduled later than expected.
The Quest for Gollum: Lord of the Rings will be released in 2027.

December 17, 2027.
This aligns with the franchise’s pattern of releasing its movies in December before the Christmas holiday, as seen with both the original Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit series.
