The chemistry between them was extremely intense during the shooting of a fervent kissing scene for season 5.

The pair were spotted filming the Hulu series in New York City on Wednesday, May 7. During one scene, Short’s character, Oliver, is running beside his new wife, Loretta (Streep). The fictional couple stop to share a heated kiss.

arises amidst speculations about a romantic relationship between the co-stars. Following several joint public outings, a spokesperson for Short, who is 75 years old, refuted in a statement released in January 2024 that they are involved romantically. Despite this denial, Tinseltown continues to jest about their strong bond.

He mentioned, “It’s hard to find someone as entertaining to be seated beside as Marty Short, whom I had the pleasure of sitting next to during the homecoming concert recently.”

Schumer continued, “I think that the tea is, I think Marty might be off the market. That’s what I’m seeing. I don’t know. … Maybe by just, like, the greatest actor of our time, I don’t know.”
Only Murders in the Building
originally brought Short and Streep
together during season 3. Loretta’s connection with Oliver allowed Streep to reprise the role in season 4, which led to a long distance relationship and a subsequent onscreen wedding.
Several factors contributed to that choice. I fully admit this. However, primarily, I found joy in it, and we agreed to proceed with it since it seemed like both an amusing and plausible concept at the time. In the realm of television and movies, once more, it serves as a subtle jest aimed at the entertainment sector where production outside one’s home country is often seen as being less expensive, more sensible, or offering something new.
John Hoffman
told
The Hollywood Reporter
In October 2024, “Such occurrences happen frequently with productions that are just starting up, transitioning, or doing anything possible to maintain control over situations and reduce expenses. Thus, a touch of that subtlety played into this choice.”
Hoffman commended Short and Streep for breathing life into Oliver and Loretta’s love affair.

“I simply adore seeing Marty and Meryl along with Oliver and Loretta as they dance and converse, particularly when Loretta comes to realize, ‘I have no clue how I manage this. I can’t fathom taking you away from her.’ This was all so touching,” he went on. “The concept of their unorthodox relationship adds another layer; she feels, ‘When you visit New Zealand, our lovely marriage might reach its conclusion.’ Understanding his perspective, she decides, ‘We should go through with this anyway.’ The entire scene is both wonderfully tender and deeply poignant. Making such mature decisions truly highlights the complexity of their situation.”
Hoffman proceeded to talk about
How much do Oliver and Loretta owe?
Romance held particular significance for him, as he recounted to Decider: “There’s this memory from when we were filming on the ferry during episode 5 of season 3. We continued shooting till around two in the morning, amidst such an exquisite evening in Manhattan. As soon as I stepped down onto the gangway, Meryl was standing there with tears welling up in her eyes, and she shared, ‘I simply needed to be here to see you leave the ship so I could tell you how grateful I am.'”
He stated, “I responded, ‘What?’ And she mentioned, ‘I finally had the opportunity to perform a scene I genuinely believed I would never get to do. To enact romantic scenarios at my current age alongside this group in such a manner—it’s simply incredible.’”
