The CEO of Cinema United, Michael O’Leary, expresses optimism about initiatives aimed at strengthening the U.S. film sector and pledges his dedication to collaborating with President Trump and Congress on this matter.

O’Leary stated that it’s crucial to understand theatrical exhibitions aren’t just part of the Hollywood sector; they’re also integral to Main Street businesses.

“We are encouraged by recent efforts to bolster the American filmed entertainment industry, including proposals to assist the people who operate theatres in towns of all sizes across the country to create the great movie houses of the next generation. It is important to recognize that theatrical exhibition is not a Hollywood industry, but a Main Street industry, and proposals that support and promote the hard work being done by theatre owners will have a positive and meaningful impact in communities across this nation. We are committed to working with the administration, Congress and all interested parties who recognize and share the goal of ensuring that our local theatres retain both their economic and cultural significance, and we thank them for their leadership.”

Cinema United issued their statement following actor Jon Voight and his collaborator Steven Paul
submitted a plan to President Trump
This previous weekend featured several tax incentives aimed at boosting film and television production within the United States. One such incentive includes an intended enlargement of Section 181, allowing a full deduction up to $15 million of the expenses incurred from producing a film filmed domestically. This proposal also seeks to extend these benefits to movie theater operators, enabling them to obtain tax relief when investing in upgrading their facilities.

Major theater companies affiliated with Cinema United have collectively pledged $2.2 billion for upgrades at cinemas throughout the U.S. and Canada.
